It entered active service with Soviet artillery regiments and tank units in the mid-1970s.
Sixteen missiles can be launched in one salvo, the number of launch tubes configured 4-6-6 from top to bottom of the three-layer stack.
Reloading the entire system takes around 20 minutes. Transportation is provided by a ZIL-135 8×8 truck chassis.
Designed in the ZIL Moscow Automobile Plant, the ZIL-135 was produced for various battlefield haulage tasks, particularly missile carriage. All of this include in military vehicles
It carried the Soviet Union’s first tactical battlefield missile system, the Luna, as well as the Uragan MLRS, and features a 70-ton carrying capacity.
