This was developed in the late 1960s by Mitsubishi Industries, and become the standard armoured personnel carrier of the Japanese Ground Self-Defence Forces/military vehicles
It has an all-wedded hull made of lightweight aluminium armour. The conversion to rocket launcher took place in 1975.
A 130mm (5.12in) hydraulically operated rocket-launching battery was mounted on the rear of the hull.
In addition, a Type 75 ground-wind measuring vehicle was developed to operate alongside the attack system. It is fitted with a 12.5m (41ft) vertical mast for measuring wind speeds up to 30km/h (19mph).
