The 2S7 is a massive vehicles stretching to 13.12 (43.04ft) when its long-barrelled 2A44 203mm (7.99in) gun is taken into account.

Firing conventional ammunition, the gun has a range of over 37km (23miles).

Coping with the recoil of the 43kg (95lb) shells requires three recoil pistons with maximum travel of 140cm (55.11in), unusually no muzzle brake is fitted to the gun.

Reloading is fully mechanized using a power-assisted loader.  Two rounds per minute is the maximum rate of fire.

The vehicles it self has the largest chassis of any Russian armoured vehicle, using seven rubber-tyred road wheels.  Its engine sits at the rear, while the crew occupy an enclosed compartment at the front.
