The Balloon-Abwehr-Kanonenwagen (BAK)1906 were designed by the Ehrhardt company for use against enemy observation balloons in World War 1.
In type of military vehicles, it was essentially a commercial truck chassis on which was mounted a 50mm (1.97in) cannon firing high-explosive shrapnel shells.
The cannon was seated on a rotating turret with a 60 degrees traverse and could engage static balloon targets up to several hundred meters in altitude.
With the advent aircraft observation, however the BAK was upgraded to a 75mm (2.95in) cannon and become possibly the first self-propelled anti-aircraft vehicle, the BAK 1909. The open crew compartment made the BAK1906 vulnerable to infantry fire.
